Sometimes life gives you lemons….. make lemonade.

December 6, 2009 at 12:07 pm (competitions, MRI blogs) (, , , , , , , , )

I was thinking over what has been in the last week. First off finding out I didnt make it for the last week of Beningborough was a little bit of a blow but I am up against some pretty stiff competition. I must say the pictures were of a great calibre this week. If you havent seen them then go to http://houseofbeningborough.wordpress.com/2009/11/19/beningborough-model-awards-finalists-week-4-runway-models/ to see the lovely finalists and from that there was the monthly winner Naiya Kazyanenko – so congratulations to her and her wonderful pictures 🙂

The next blow was the disappearance of one Jason Grant – CEO of MPI Agency and also the main co-ordinator of the Miss Refined competition that myself and 24 other contestants were competing in. At first it was thought something serious has occurred to Mr Grant but sadly it seems like so many others on SL that his RL issues have taken over and he is no where to be seen or to be contacted. As such the competition exists no more and the agency has been removed. This was a great disappointment and shock to many of the girls and very upsetting for the MPI family as we have been torn apart as an agency. It was sad to see so many valuable members leave and have to find work else where.

Personally I was upset at the effort some of us had put into the contest only to have nothing to show for it. But on a good note I have enjoyed blogging and when I can will continue to do so as I find it very cathartic to do. I am afraid I will not be blogging in the same vigour as the competition denotes but will promise that you will have a few little tit bits so to speak from me a week 🙂

So lots of bad with a little bit of good news there… I have been lucky to be cast in two up and coming shows and ill shamelessly promote them later on when I have full details. One is the Red Carpet event for Infinite Focus agency with lots of great designers. THe second has been postponed more for January but I am looking forward to it – FSC will be putting on a show with designer Detaleez and I am so excited that I am involved as it is a punk show 🙂 Look forward to hearing more about that. I think in an earlier post I showed you the skin and hair also an outfit I used to for the casting so you get the idea 🙂

Finally the good news – I was made a model with SSMA – Sophisticated Secrets Modeling Agency through the work and studies I have done with Fashion Institute. I would like to thank Colby and Thalia for all the help they have given me and the many wonderful mentors and trainers at the institute. Also to Rumour Market the Dean of the institute for all her help in guiding me through my path. I am so thrilled to be working with them and hope to enjoy a long and fruitful relationship with the agency. Please go check them inworld they really do try to suit their courses to you 🙂 here is their web site also 🙂 http://www.fashionpalace.tk/
Well that brings me to present date of things I have been up to and on with and I hope that I can write a little more frequently to tell you more about what has been happening with me.

I do hope to also show you some pics I have had done through Anita Claven for the Anges Finney – My Precious Royal Princess. Here is a taster for you 🙂

Challenge 3 : Interview for Catalyst of Fantasy Magazine.

November 22, 2009 at 9:16 pm (Miss Refined International, MRI blogs) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Firstly I just would like to take the time to say thank you so much to Noa Daffyd a fantastic person all round for allowing me the option of doing a real interview for my Challenge. It was lovely using a real live interview as the basis for this challenge.

“I like to keep true to my ideals as a person”
Written by Noa Daffyd, writer for Catalyst of Fantasy Magazine

The Miss Refined International contest is in full swing. Through all the heavy challenges, Miss Keeley Cooperstone made some time to speak with the Catalyst of Fantasy Magazine. We found out that this Miss isn’t only beauty. She also has brains and a warm heart.

*Miss Keeley Cooperstone can you tell us something about you?*
I am fairly new into the fashion industry, but I have been educating myself in as many aspects of SL as possible. I have developed not only a bit of my building skills, but photography as well. I see it as a huge learning curve that is only the start of what I want to achieve. So far I have been trained by one agency, but I ‘m about to finish training at Fashion Institute. This has helped me to develop my skills even more. Through this I have met some of the industries greatest teachers and models. Through listening to them and asking advice I think I’ve learned more then I ever could learn on the runway or in a studio.

*What do you want to achieve as a model?*
I want to be good enough that I can say that I’ve walked for the best designers, but still have managed to keep grounded as a person. When I’ve reached that I want to pass on what I learn to other aspiring models.

*Would winning Miss Refined International be one of those achievements?*
Competing in Miss Refined International already is an achievement for me. When the competition came along, I had barely graduated from Modelpages International. As nervous as I was, I walked down the runway with my hands shaking on the keyboard. It was my first official casting and I tried my best in front of the judges. I was lucky enough to be selected from the thirty girls that applied in September!

*You’ve came really far, how?*
I think an element of it has to be luck or fate, being in the right place and right time. But also the right outfit, hair and the right competition. I thought really long and hard about my styling and the poses I could use. I hope that through that and through my written application they saw I was serious and committed. I was determined and able to walk against some of the best models.

*Why did you enter the contest for Miss Refined International?*
The main reason was to prove to myself. I wanted to see if i had what it took while being under pressure by a judge. If I crumble too easily, I wouldn’t be made out of the tough material that all models need to be.

*How do you judge your chances against the other contestants?*
I think we all have a chance, but the important thing is to remain focused and to always try your best. For me that’s been my motto the whole way through. I feel that is what will help me in the end. To keep true to myself to make sure that I do my best. I do have a great fondness for many of my competitors and we all have crossed paths at some stage. But again it is a competition and we all have to focus on what we are here for.

*Obvious you came for winning the crown. You have to do some challenges for that, how did they go so far?*
You never expect to write a business plan for a competition. Or to write a blog two times a day for a whole week and maintain that for a month. But I think I have taken them on board quite well and I now enjoy my blogging. The business side opened up a new door for me and I did get to learn more about promoting myself. For some that is a huge effort, but I managed to apply it to me. I am quite impressed that the contest is also about other aspects then looking lovely. It challenges the brain as well.

*One of the challenges was to fake an interview, why did you chose to do it with a real SL writer?*
I hoped that by using a real SL writer, I would have a more authentic account of my thoughts. It would have been very easy to write what I wanted, but how would that show the commitment that I feel? I also felt that doing an interview with a real writer would enable me to experience to be a spokesmodel for Miss Refined International.

*What are you willing to do to win?*
I like to keep true to my ideals as a person. I try not to compromise my beliefs. It is important to have a hunger to win, but not at all costs. I would be prepared to do what I need, but within the boundaries of decency and with others in mind. You won’t see any knee knobbling here. I want to be chosen for the right reasons. As the title says its for Miss Refined and for me that means someone who is elegant and suggested taste. Who also showed and has good feelings, one who was not vulgar and/or displayed no impurities. I want to emulate the meaning of refined and in doing that I do not have to trample or upset anyone

*What would it do to you if you won?*
It would be a great step to what I want to achieve. Not only would it bring me some more notoriety, but it also allows me to share with others what I’ve learned. I hope it shows people that you don’t have to be rude, aggressive and nasty to get where you want. Kindness and consideration as well as sharing helps us all. That’s how I want my career in modeling to go.

*The final question, why are you Miss Refined International ’10?*
I am Miss Refined International because the judges recognised that I have developed, changed and challenged myself along the way. In doing this I still remained who I am as a person.

My greatest achievements.

November 20, 2009 at 10:10 pm (MRI blogs, Musings) (, , , , , , , , , , , )

Today when chatting with a friend I was reminded how much things have changed and the sorts of events and achievements that I have had since starting in Second Life. Back in the day when I first started out it was an achievement for me to actually move around with out bumping into people and going into sims half dressed 😉 I finally progressed to an acceptable avi that soon learnt in a few weeks the ins and out of navigating around Second Life as well as how to put together a moderately well made avi. Although I did have to answer the question of was I an alt a billion times. We move forward a few months and I was sucessful in aquring a job for Kayia Islands at one of their sims called Cupids Lagoon. It was a dream job in those times 🙂 Hosting a venue with some fab people learning lots in Second Life and enjoying a job I loved to do. Sadly I had to leave as I was possibly moving in real life and also I wanted to spend a little more time doing my real life job. After a few months things settled down and I decided that it was time to try a new venture. That was when modeling came along and tempted me. So I signed up to a few agencies and it was Modelpages International that won my heart. My first big achievement there was to start the programme with them. Then I was lucky enough to graduate all be it a little later then I had hoped due to real life interruptions. Graduation day was wonderful and my first real live fashion show with them. I also managed in the same month to get selected for Miss Refined International and as a new model it was a huge achievement. Next along the line was to be lucky enough to be accepted to Rock Me Amadaeus as a in store model. I love working for the store and my family of girls are the best. In the last two months I think my greatest achievement has been being accepted into the Miss Refined contest. It was a great honour to be put through in Septembers round and I am totally enjoying the challenges to make it through to the finals. Recently I have also spent time on the House of Beningborough runway. It was also another highlight in my modeling career to have my pictures chosen as weekly winners with some of the best in the business. Of course there have been many others like walking in shows for a variety of other agencies. But to me these are the ones that stick out them most.

To finish with I want to try and include a song that I find inspirational. I played this for children in Year 6 in my RL job – we try to encourage them to stive for the skies 🙂 It is their last year in our primary school age and a great song for end of year to help them remember how great they are 😉

If anybody asks u who I am
Just stand up tall look ’em in the Face and say

I’m that star up in the sky
I’m that mountain peak up high

I’m the worlds greatest
And I’m that little bit of hope
When my backs against the ropes
I can feel it mmm

Quotes

November 16, 2009 at 5:24 pm (Miss Refined International, MRI blogs) (, , , , , , )

I was reading the new blogs on the MPI – ModelPages International site http://modelpages.net and one of the new blogs that has been uploaded was about quotes and what various people thought was a good quote that spelt out REFINED to them. This was a rather interesting item to have in a blog as many of the contestants have replied. There were some lovely quotes about what that meant to the various people that posted.
MPI started the ball rolling with …

•“Great minds talk about ideas, average minds talk about events, and simple minds talk about other people”
•“Life is what happens to you while you’re working for your future”
•“The only time you run out of chances is when you stop taking them”

I particularly liked the following quotes from the girls.

Katherine Comet said,

November 14, 2009 at 11:44 am

“All that we are is the result of what we have thought. The mind is everything. What we think, we become.”
Buddha

He who sedulously attends, pointedly asks, calmly speaks, coolly answers and ceases when he has no more to say is in possession of some of the best requisites of man.

~Johann Casper Lavater
Kimber said,

“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act , but a habit.”
~Aristotle

I think some wise words here but the one I found to be most poignant for me was
“Man often becomes what he believes himself to be. If I keep on saying to myself that I cannot do a certain thing, it is possible that I may end by really becoming incapable of doing it. On the contrary, if I have the belief that I can do it, I shall surely acquire the capacity to do it even if I may not have it at the beginning.”
– Mahatma Gandhi

truly a great man.

The Challenge.

November 15, 2009 at 11:02 am (Miss Refined International, MRI blogs) (, , , , , , , , , , , , )

Well I have been working on the Challenge to beat all Challenges today with the Miss Refined contest. It has really taken it out of me this week thinking about the business side and aspect of the second part of this challenge. Here is the second part to the challenge…

Develop and submit a 10 point (concepts) marketing plan for the blog you created in challenge 1. You must use at least one marketing E-Book purchased from http://www.kissmyebook.com and you must provide in your plan, the title of the E-Book(s) used and page number(s) where you found the information.

I must say this teacher mind does not really have the business acumen that many others probably have. I had to really research what this topic was all about. I told a friend I have no idea what I am doing but I will give it my best try. I think the hard part which is really quite interesting is that I have no idea to what the term ’10 Point Marketing Plan’ means as the terminology that say Australia and the UK will use might be slightly different to what the US use. A friend mentioned well isnt it all english lol Sure it is but essentially we use different terms in different english speaking countries for different things 🙂
Say for example you want something sweet to eat. In the USA it is candy whilst in Australia we call them lolliles and in UK we call them sweeties 🙂
So really all the same thing just different terms. Same with fizzy drink, pop, lollywater, soda or softdrinks or the other host of names for describing a carbonated flavoured drink. Don not even get me started on flipflops, thongs and scuffs !!! I talked before about different languages and the need starting for us all to learn a language but in essence we are doing that every day in SL when we come across different english speaking people. Just luckily for us we can communicate to make the connections in these differences. So….. basically before I started the challenge I had to really define what the words meant so that I knew what I was talking about. The truth being is I think I know but if I actually know that will be a minor miracle. LOL So with my ideas in hand I set about doing the challenge. I had to devise what would be the steps I would need to follow in order to Market my Blog a bit better to get it to the masses. After trawling through some ebooks as asked to buy and download and doing a little investigation work I think I finally arrived at my top 10. I must say it was very hard to limit it at 10. But I do think like everything this is a plan for the now and once some or all of the goals have reached then I need to redo the plan to include some other ideas 🙂 So that was what I basically based it on and sent off my Challenge 2 to Jason at MPI. Lord knows I am nervous and I have no idea how I went. It would be lovely to get feedback so if any of you business types ever get a chance to read my blog. Let me know how close to the mark I got with the plan. I will include the steps below and run and hide before someone tells me I have completely ballsed it up 🙂

1. Make sure that I obtain a stand alone domain name from wordpress so that it becomes more prominent to people.
2. Optimize the blog that has been created in wordpress. Make sure the style and the plugins suit the style of the blog and the target group it is for. (Pg 10/11)
3. To ensure that trackbacks and pings have been included to link to other blogs and important sites.
4. Setup a Google account for Sitemap.
5. Identify authoritative blogs, web sites and hubs for outbound resource links and blogroll. (Pg8 )
6. Build up online networks through services such as MyBlogLog, Twitter and Facebook and use them to promote particularly useful content on your blog.
7. Enable statistics for tracking – Google Analytics, ClickTracks.
8. Submit RSS feed and Blog URL to prominent RSS and Blog directories / search engines (Pg 20/21)
9. Identify authoritative blogs, web sites and hubs for outbound resource links and blogroll. Submit blog url to paid directories with categories for blogs like Yahoo, MSN. (Pg 22/23)
10. Monitor inbound links, traffic, comments and mentions of your blog – Google Alerts, Technorati, Blogpulse, Yahoo News, Ask Blogs and Feeds.

Not sure how it will go 🙂
Fingers crossed

Hair today gone tomorrow.

November 14, 2009 at 11:42 pm (Life of SL Model, Musings) (, , , , )

Well I don’t know if it is senility as I am yet another year older two days ago lol or that I was feeling erm particularly silly the other night and in some very rare down time Shal and I decided to do something totally insane. We were talking about how I am always trawling for great hair. He has um one hair 🙂 Never the less I thought I would make some fun by well wearing all my hairs at once… Resulting picture follows….

It does seem a little silly to dress up like that but hey we all need some down time and we all need to have a laugh at our own expense. Now the resulting silliness caused us to have a giggling fit over some possible titles for the blog which was nice and also means now every time I go to put a hair on for an outfit I have to find out where I attached it!!!!! Oh well never mind a small price to pay for such fun for the evening. 🙂

Here were the possible titles 🙂
Now which shall I wear tonight?
Hair today gone tomorrow
I’m having a bad hair day
Hope I don’t get head lice
Hair raising day
New winter coat
Got hair?
Sort this out toni & guy
Is it shearing time
You gonna do some quilting ?
What do you think they’re gonna make of the hair… woman
How much shampoo do you think I need?
How much to re-colour all this?
How about a wax.. do i really need one?
Yeti’s love child
Boots here I come
Keel you really expect me to love you with all that hair – a lovely one from my other half 🙂
Remind me to purchase a lawn mower – his offering again.

LOL not sure it will cut it in the world of modeling but such fun was had!

A new day … a new challenge.

November 11, 2009 at 9:05 pm (Miss Refined International, MRI blogs) (, , , , , , , )

Well I popped online for a little weeee while this morning and logged into Second Life and low and behold what should be upon us but the new challenge for Miss Refined International. Mhhhh I thought to myself was there the faint sounds of that Mission Impossible them playing again or am I just imagining it again 🙂 Darts a quick look around for Tom again. Just my luck he isn’t here…..
Opening up my envelope I can tell something important is inside. On a crisp white piece of paper is written the information needed to complete challenge 2 of our 3 and half challenges. This half part intrigues me so much 🙂 Will we wear half a dress will I have to write half a blog only time will tell.
The mission should we choose to accept it is to do one of the following…
Option [1]: Create a before and after photo. Just one photo (merged), Label the top-left side of the photo as “Before Miss Refined…” and I want you to look the same as you were when you were a newbie. On the top right, I want you to be styled for perfection and label that, “Now, I Am Refined”. Your name will also be somewhere on the photo. The photos will be ranked for originality, design and creativeness – 10 Points Possible

Option [2]: Develop and submit a 10 point (concepts) marketing plan for the blog you created in challenge 1. You must use at least one marketing E-Book purchased from http://www.kissmyebook.com and you must provide in your plan, the title of the E-Book(s) used and page number(s) where you found the information.

Both really interest me as I do have a hard time using Photoshop Pro or any of those editing aspects and have only done the sort of picture talked about once before 🙂 and the business side of it peaks my interest in expanding something I have no knowledge of. Jason has suggested that we can do both and then the highest score of the best one will be used. Again always wanting to try something different this tickles my fancy to try both 🙂

So with only a few days to get sorted I am madly reading up on things and madly finding out as much as I can to work on my picture. I am picking the brains of all I know to try to find out about the things I think will help not only with the picture but with the marketing plan .

Watch this space 🙂
Ill let you know how it all goes.

Fancy bumping into you!!

November 8, 2009 at 10:06 pm (Life of SL Model, MRI blogs) (, , , , , , )

Well today I went to Beningborough as I have been selected for Week 2 to be a runway model and show the lovely designs of Miss Bliss Beningborough ( http://houseofbeningborough.wordpress.com ). This is the second week in a row that I have been so fortunate enough to do this. Next week will be the last week so I am hoping that I will be good enough to continue again another week on the runway.
house-of-beningborough-logo2

It was total mania today as the ever gracious Bliss had heavily slashed her prices and all the people that belong to the group were in to see what lovely items they might purchase… Yes yes I did get a few myself 🙂
As part of the role on the runway I was to say hello and greet those that entered the store. I like this part as I love the idea of a personal greeting and hello to each and every customer. So myself and one of my other friends Elyna Carver who also appeared on the runway this week were saying hello when in came Katherine Comet (also a contestant for Miss Refined International). It is always lovely to see her as she is very graceful indeed and I do enjoy watching shows she is in. We were chatting about the task at hand with the blogs and finding the times in our busy schedule to complete them. It is funny how even though one gets so busy we still find the time to add more into the day 🙂
It was great to catch up with her again and to wish her well in the comp. I do enjoy chatting with people and she is lovely to chat to, I am sure she will have bought something simply stunning from the range. I didn’t know it at the time but she was a regular up on the runway at HOB. Strange this world really but it does not surprise me 🙂 Well must dash I have to see what I can put with my outfits for my new round of pictures. Fingers crossed I get in for week 3 🙂

10 Things About me :)

November 8, 2009 at 3:24 pm (Musings, Uncategorized) (, , , , , , )

I was thinking the other say that as contestants and competitors what do we really know about each other in Miss Refined 🙂 So here are 10 things about me that most people (even people who think they know me well) don’t know.

#1 I like to quilt – not everyone knows about this one I love making traditional quilts from hand – very rare people actually see this as I was embarrassed about being young and enjoying such an old world craft 🙂

#2 I hate to have baths – not too sure when this all came about but I much prefer to soak in a steamy shower for a long time then I do the bath – must be the pummeling water 🙂

#3 I actually know how to change my own tires and to fix up various parts in my car. Due to a relationship with a mechanic I was privy to many long hours being right hand woman to him when he worked on our cars! I do learn.

#4 I love to sing and generally can be found singing in the shower and the car and at times when I am on my own at home. I was told I was tone deaf and sounded like a dog dying one time so have not assaulted anyones ears with my voice anymore 🙂

#5 I hate sausages – don’t know what it is but ever since I was young I have hated all types of sausages and this is not without re trying them at lots of different stages.

#6 I have the same middle name and confirmation name as my best friend from Australia 🙂 I think its only her and I that know that one 🙂

#7 Im not a natural blonde 🙂 Well not anymore hee hee

#8 I love the snow and even strange still I love it when its so cold it makes it all crinkly in your nose!!!!

#9 I do not like to be around people who always think that things go wrong. They have a very negative attitude and i find that it brings me down just a little 🙂 I will always try to lift peoples spirit but they make it very hard!

#10 I love it when its cold and wet and i can curl up with a hot chocolate and a book 🙂

Refined or not refined that is the question…

November 5, 2009 at 10:54 pm (Miss Refined International, MRI blogs) (, , , , , , , )

I have been thinking about this title of refined a little closer these last few days.  The blog has made me look really deeply into what it all means.  Some of the definitions I have found on the web are…

  • (used of persons and their behavior) cultivated and genteel; “she was delicate and refined and unused to hardship”; “refined people with refined …
  • freed from impurities by processing
  • polished: showing a high degree of refinement and the assurance that comes from wide social experience; “his polished manner”; “maintained an urbane tone in his letters”
  • elegant: suggesting taste, ease, and wealth
  • neat: free from what is tawdry or unbecoming; “a neat style”; “a neat set of rules”; “she hated to have her neat plans upset”
    wordnetweb.princeton.edu/perl/webwn
  • Showing or having good feelings or good taste; An absence of coarseness; Not vulgar; Without impurities
    en.wiktionary.org/wiki/refined
  • Let me tell you firstly – this is not by any means a complete list 🙂 I have found it necessary to extract all references to sugar!!! 🙂  MMh sugar… drool.

That left me with the understanding that a refined  person was someone that had been polished – that was freed from impurities by processing (interesting thought) – someone who was elegant and suggested taste, a good one at that!!  who also showed or had good feelings – one who was not vulgar and or displayed no impurities.  What a hard task these judges have.  To find someone that represents all those qualities in abundance and together will be a very special lady indeed.  The person worthy of that crown will be someone with high values, regard for others and regard for herself.  She will be someone that has really developed and evolved to be the best she could be and someone for all others to look up to.  A very high bar has been set.  A challenge, if you may, to see that one of us who will be that truly refined person.

In thinking about all these factors it is within us that we must look to see that we have attained or strived to attain these qualities.  That we will represent the title in not only a physical sense but that our whole beings will promote the ideals of what Miss Refined is all about. It is with this in mind I look forward my head held high my back straight to hope to be selected for such a role.

    From the refined?
