Challenge 3 : Interview for Catalyst of Fantasy Magazine.

November 22, 2009 at 9:16 pm (Miss Refined International, MRI blogs) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Firstly I just would like to take the time to say thank you so much to Noa Daffyd a fantastic person all round for allowing me the option of doing a real interview for my Challenge. It was lovely using a real live interview as the basis for this challenge.

“I like to keep true to my ideals as a person”
Written by Noa Daffyd, writer for Catalyst of Fantasy Magazine

The Miss Refined International contest is in full swing. Through all the heavy challenges, Miss Keeley Cooperstone made some time to speak with the Catalyst of Fantasy Magazine. We found out that this Miss isn’t only beauty. She also has brains and a warm heart.

*Miss Keeley Cooperstone can you tell us something about you?*
I am fairly new into the fashion industry, but I have been educating myself in as many aspects of SL as possible. I have developed not only a bit of my building skills, but photography as well. I see it as a huge learning curve that is only the start of what I want to achieve. So far I have been trained by one agency, but I ‘m about to finish training at Fashion Institute. This has helped me to develop my skills even more. Through this I have met some of the industries greatest teachers and models. Through listening to them and asking advice I think I’ve learned more then I ever could learn on the runway or in a studio.

*What do you want to achieve as a model?*
I want to be good enough that I can say that I’ve walked for the best designers, but still have managed to keep grounded as a person. When I’ve reached that I want to pass on what I learn to other aspiring models.

*Would winning Miss Refined International be one of those achievements?*
Competing in Miss Refined International already is an achievement for me. When the competition came along, I had barely graduated from Modelpages International. As nervous as I was, I walked down the runway with my hands shaking on the keyboard. It was my first official casting and I tried my best in front of the judges. I was lucky enough to be selected from the thirty girls that applied in September!

*You’ve came really far, how?*
I think an element of it has to be luck or fate, being in the right place and right time. But also the right outfit, hair and the right competition. I thought really long and hard about my styling and the poses I could use. I hope that through that and through my written application they saw I was serious and committed. I was determined and able to walk against some of the best models.

*Why did you enter the contest for Miss Refined International?*
The main reason was to prove to myself. I wanted to see if i had what it took while being under pressure by a judge. If I crumble too easily, I wouldn’t be made out of the tough material that all models need to be.

*How do you judge your chances against the other contestants?*
I think we all have a chance, but the important thing is to remain focused and to always try your best. For me that’s been my motto the whole way through. I feel that is what will help me in the end. To keep true to myself to make sure that I do my best. I do have a great fondness for many of my competitors and we all have crossed paths at some stage. But again it is a competition and we all have to focus on what we are here for.

*Obvious you came for winning the crown. You have to do some challenges for that, how did they go so far?*
You never expect to write a business plan for a competition. Or to write a blog two times a day for a whole week and maintain that for a month. But I think I have taken them on board quite well and I now enjoy my blogging. The business side opened up a new door for me and I did get to learn more about promoting myself. For some that is a huge effort, but I managed to apply it to me. I am quite impressed that the contest is also about other aspects then looking lovely. It challenges the brain as well.

*One of the challenges was to fake an interview, why did you chose to do it with a real SL writer?*
I hoped that by using a real SL writer, I would have a more authentic account of my thoughts. It would have been very easy to write what I wanted, but how would that show the commitment that I feel? I also felt that doing an interview with a real writer would enable me to experience to be a spokesmodel for Miss Refined International.

*What are you willing to do to win?*
I like to keep true to my ideals as a person. I try not to compromise my beliefs. It is important to have a hunger to win, but not at all costs. I would be prepared to do what I need, but within the boundaries of decency and with others in mind. You won’t see any knee knobbling here. I want to be chosen for the right reasons. As the title says its for Miss Refined and for me that means someone who is elegant and suggested taste. Who also showed and has good feelings, one who was not vulgar and/or displayed no impurities. I want to emulate the meaning of refined and in doing that I do not have to trample or upset anyone

*What would it do to you if you won?*
It would be a great step to what I want to achieve. Not only would it bring me some more notoriety, but it also allows me to share with others what I’ve learned. I hope it shows people that you don’t have to be rude, aggressive and nasty to get where you want. Kindness and consideration as well as sharing helps us all. That’s how I want my career in modeling to go.

*The final question, why are you Miss Refined International ’10?*
I am Miss Refined International because the judges recognised that I have developed, changed and challenged myself along the way. In doing this I still remained who I am as a person.

Wicca’s Wisdom.

November 22, 2009 at 8:51 pm (Shows and events) (, , , , , )

Once upon a time you get an opportunity to do something that you don’t normally do and for me that was attending the session at Fashion Institute where you could talk to the famous Wicca Merlin in an Open Forum with Wicca. The info for the session only said ‘We are delighted to invite you and all of your friends to an open forum with Wicca Merlin. Wicca is a top professional model in SL and here is your chance to come and quiz her on any aspect of modeling.’

I was quite interested in what she would have to say and curious how one of the best in the industry handled the pressure and all the requirements of modeling. It was a great talk and she was a lovely person to be so honest, open and frank. We listened to her talk about her time in the modeling industry and some do’s and don’ts she would suggest. As well as talking about some interesting things that had happened to her during her time so far. She had some very good advice about being unique and to have a unique style and I didn’t realise how much trouble she went to, to keep her face as similar for all pictures as possible – so the brand of Wicca Merlin remains the same. It was interesting also to hear about other areas of modeling and the fashion industry that she was involved with. I think she was promoting as it being very important as a model to be involved in your agency in other capacity. I really was so enthralled by the session and it was lovely to have Shal come along with me to support me in some of my training. He is good he always helps out and I think honestly I am very fortunate to have such a supportive special person in my life :). [15:49] Wicca Merlin: for your self
[15:49] Keeley Cooperstone: πŸ™‚
[15:49] Wicca Merlin: and then think what all you can handle
[15:49] Wicca Merlin: and think about what takes you hwo long
[15:49] Wicca Merlin: for example
[15:50] Wicca Merlin: if you have 4 hours time
[15:50] Wicca Merlin: you can go to the store you model for ..then you can open a small window for example photoshop and edit your pics or write a note cards and you even can pay attention for the incoming customers
[15:51] Keeley Cooperstone: lol yeps im hearing my life right now πŸ˜‰

My greatest achievements.

November 20, 2009 at 10:10 pm (MRI blogs, Musings) (, , , , , , , , , , , )

Today when chatting with a friend I was reminded how much things have changed and the sorts of events and achievements that I have had since starting in Second Life. Back in the day when I first started out it was an achievement for me to actually move around with out bumping into people and going into sims half dressed πŸ˜‰ I finally progressed to an acceptable avi that soon learnt in a few weeks the ins and out of navigating around Second Life as well as how to put together a moderately well made avi. Although I did have to answer the question of was I an alt a billion times. We move forward a few months and I was sucessful in aquring a job for Kayia Islands at one of their sims called Cupids Lagoon. It was a dream job in those times πŸ™‚ Hosting a venue with some fab people learning lots in Second Life and enjoying a job I loved to do. Sadly I had to leave as I was possibly moving in real life and also I wanted to spend a little more time doing my real life job. After a few months things settled down and I decided that it was time to try a new venture. That was when modeling came along and tempted me. So I signed up to a few agencies and it was Modelpages International that won my heart. My first big achievement there was to start the programme with them. Then I was lucky enough to graduate all be it a little later then I had hoped due to real life interruptions. Graduation day was wonderful and my first real live fashion show with them. I also managed in the same month to get selected for Miss Refined International and as a new model it was a huge achievement. Next along the line was to be lucky enough to be accepted to Rock Me Amadaeus as a in store model. I love working for the store and my family of girls are the best. In the last two months I think my greatest achievement has been being accepted into the Miss Refined contest. It was a great honour to be put through in Septembers round and I am totally enjoying the challenges to make it through to the finals. Recently I have also spent time on the House of Beningborough runway. It was also another highlight in my modeling career to have my pictures chosen as weekly winners with some of the best in the business. Of course there have been many others like walking in shows for a variety of other agencies. But to me these are the ones that stick out them most.

To finish with I want to try and include a song that I find inspirational. I played this for children in Year 6 in my RL job – we try to encourage them to stive for the skies πŸ™‚ It is their last year in our primary school age and a great song for end of year to help them remember how great they are πŸ˜‰

World’s Greatest
Album: Chocolate Factory (2003)

I am a mountain
I am a tall tree
Ohhh, I am a swift wind
Sweepin’ the country
I am a river
Down in the valley
Ohhh, I am a vision
And I can see clearly
If anybody asks u who I am
Just stand up tall look ’em in the Face and say

I’m that star up in the sky
I’m that mountain peak up high
I made it
I’m the worlds greatest
And I’m that little bit of hope
When my backs against the ropes
I can feel it mmm
I’m the worlds greatest

I am a giant
I am an eagle
I am a lion
Down in the jungle
I am a marchin’ band
I am the people
I am a helpin’ hand
And I am a hero
If anybody asks u who I am
Just stand up tall look ’em in the Face and say

I’m that star up in the sky
I’m that mountain peak up high
I made it
I’m the worlds greatest
And I’m that little bit of hope
When my backs against the ropes
I can feel it
I’m the worlds greatest

Makes me smile

Say cheese.

November 19, 2009 at 9:34 pm (Modeling world) (, , , , , )

LOL well as the title suggest its not about the well loved dairy product but rather about a class I attended in SL on the Ins & Outs of Photoshoots and was taken by Anabella Ravinelli. I have talked about the Fashion Institute a little and although my fantastic grounding as a model was done at ModelPages International, which I will be ever so grateful for. I feel that they are my first true family of models in Second Life but Fashion Institute is where I have been further developing my studies. I am only a lesson or two away from graduating with a bachelors there. So decided to attend the photography one to see if there was anything else I could learn to make shoots more professional. It was great luckily for me I was the only class member that night πŸ™‚ so got some specialist treatment. The class was mainly focusing on these areas….

This class will cover how to be professional and easy for the photographer to work with, as well as poses and preparation. Class will consist of both lecture and hands-on practice.

It was funny when we did go up and try some hands on practice πŸ™‚
We arrived in a fake photo shoot room. Anabella played the part of a model and I was to play the part of the photographer and we acted out a photo shoot. It was interesting as she started chatting to me in local chat and after everything said to me prior being I love to talk for England I totally forgot that its more appropriate in IM for a photo shoot !! Well it was certainly strange being the other one behind the camera and it did make me appreciate how difficult it would be taking a photograph and then having a model twittering on or not paying attention. So I guess the main thing that I learned from this class is make sure you pay lots of attention and that you don’t interrupt the photographer whilst they are working unless its to clarify something. Keep chat to a minimum! Something to learn to take on with me into the future.

Kicking back.

November 17, 2009 at 9:37 pm (Musings) (, , , )

Tonight Shal and I get to do something we rarely get time to do. Probably cause its my fault more than anything. We actually got invited to a beach party for Fashion Institute with the lovely people I have been studying with and those of whom I will be working in when I graduate with my Bachelors Degree in two classes time. It was nice to kick back and relax with people have a dance and a lot of laughs. That rarely happens these days as I seem to be so busy either modelling or doing practices, working at RMA- Rock Me Amadeus and or completing challenges and on the runway for House of Beningborough.
It has been a while since last Shal and I spent a long time doing anything other then modeling related work. We enjoyed the fun and laughter and had a little dance together again – a favourite past time of ours. He is such an excellent dancer too!!
Was nice to see Rumor, Colby, Talyia, Vel, Sparkie, Gem and Hershey as well as many others there. I have included a little piccy of our dances πŸ™‚ Bliss to be spending time together :).

Always learning.

November 12, 2009 at 10:42 pm (Life of SL Model, MRI blogs) (, , , , , , )

Well today I want to talk about the fact that as a model I think it is important alway to learn new things. I have been currently trying to update my knowledge and craft by attending some courses at the Fashion Institute. It has been really good to go over things that although I was well trained through MPI it was nice to hear all that I knew about the modeling world was in fact true and the best knowledge. I also have been to some of the more advanced classes by some very knowledgeable people in the industry. This has been more valuable as it is nice to get a different perspective from other people. One such class was about choreography of a show. This I found very interesting as you know what happens backstage and so on as a model. But you can never fully understand what has happened between the designer, coordinator and even the announcer. We gained a greater understanding and appreciation for organising a show and the sorts of reasons behind choices that the coordinator has to make with the walking routine, the models selection, the types of walks that will happen , the best poses to use. It really is quite involved and to be honest I will never look at a casting the same way These ladies have a hard choice to make when deciding on the models and I do not envy that or the decisions made for what outfits people must have to wear. I will always have a greater respect when I attend castings and also remember the difficulty that these sorts of things present. Also I hope that one day I will be able to use my knew knowledge to do a show or work on a show at some stage.

Be aware Be informed!

November 12, 2009 at 8:32 pm (Miss Refined International, Modeling world, MRI blogs) (, , , , , )

Well as part of a life of a model in RL or in SL and part of being in Miss Refined I have learnt that it always good to be informed.
images

I think its important to keep up to date. This is where making time to read comes in. I find at times it hard to keep on top of a lot of things when my RL starts to kick in a little more. But tonight I made time to read some more of the MPI blog on http://modelpages.net/ and more importantly they have been recently writing about creating impressions and the must have things in your wardrobe. The latest information posted on 12/11 was about getting an impressive portfolio. I have had one portfolio done at this stage and I am in the process of thinking about getting another done. In my classes at Fashion Institute I have been thinking about what was said about the types of looks its important to have. This article on MPI’s site further develops the idea that there are a few things every model should have. Yes we want to look original and have an interesting character but at the same time when presenting a portfolio it is also important to remember to have a variety of styles. Which is hard to capture in a twenty page book.

You have to make a statement with your wardrobe. The clothes you choose must create a character

LOL at times I wonder if I should create some totally out there characters or looks and I did do that recently with two activities I was involved in – one a casting that I did for Infinite Focus for Spooky Fest and another was for an avant garde picture that we did for FI – Fashion Institute class. Well needless to say I was trying to create that new character look and when thinking about it much later down the track it makes me think how much I have changed my views and my stable steady sense of style and tried to develop myself more. I guess you could say I was living the Miss Refined ideal and I didnt even know it!

Modeling out of the box.

November 6, 2009 at 8:18 pm (Agencies, Life of SL Model) (, , , , , )

Infinite casting - SpookyOn Tuesday night oh yes quite some time ago I hear you say πŸ™‚ but I have been that flat out. The world of modeling is relentless but so enjoyable. I remember someone saying you have to be infront and before the time to be up with the best. On Tuesday I attended the Infinite FOCUS Inc casting for their new show they are hoping to produce called Spook Fest – using the designs from Bounce. I hope it all comes off as it sounds lots of fun. I went to the Sim where Bounce Designs are located and found out that they were designers that not only did some interesting styles of clothes but also mainly from what I saw catered for the Neko ,Gorean and Furry admirers. They have some cool items if you are into any of these areas. I did like the Gor clothes and possibly would look to go back should something come up along the lines related with that. So with that in mind I went along to my casting looking a little different from the norm.
I remembered back to something KaylenaMaria Destiny said to me when I attended a class of hers at the Fashion Institute. She said at times there will be situations where you have to make yourself go out of the box. She was of course talking about avant garde outfits and styling. But I applied her words of wisdom to my casting. A wise friend in the modeling world and a person I have a great regard for said to me when you go to a casting you need to remember that you need to stand out but in a good way. So to do something different but unique that is in keeping with what the casting is about be it syling a little different or by the way you present yourself. So on her advice I also made a styling notecard to give to the judges of the agency so that they knew I put alot of thought into my outfit and why I chose it.

Well I turned up and in my oufit looked very different from the other girls who came in some lovely clothes but looked as they would any normal casting – well made up with lovely clothes, hair, skin and jewelery but not different or unique. I was starting to feel a little doubtful but knew I had to carry it through. The announcer said don’t forget ladies this is a costume type of show. A few of the girls quickly changed to something more edgy but I had been working on this one for two days so felt more comfortable and breathed a sigh of relief. As I took my place on the stage to do my walk I got nervous as I always do but was very happy with the choices I had made. I walked to the end and showed some of my poses and then requested to the judges could I give them my styling card. They agreed !!

Needless to say this was the icing on the cake I managed to get the casting and also had heard through the grapevine that they were very impressed with not only my styling but the notecard I used. I am so glad I took the chance listened to the advice of other more experienced people and just went for it. I think for me this was going out of the norm as I am never overly pushy and it gave me a more confindent air they must have been looking for. Onwards and upwards to new things. I am looking forward to another casting where I can try again to do something small a little differently or with my own unique twist to stand out a little more from the crowd.

PS Here was what i Wrote πŸ™‚

When I heard the title of the casting was Spook Fest I was thoroughly excited a chance to do something a little different, a little outside the box. Then the next fantastic news was to find out that Bounce were the designers and that made me more excited knowing that they did gore and neko and other wonderful clothes πŸ™‚

I am wearing Star Bright witch outfit by AliciaKay Kilara who makes costumes at A touch of Ireland.
It features an underskirt and flexiskirt that gives it a see through tulle skirt that flows and turns easily. The Star bright top has long sleeves with pearl buttons on the sleves and matching pearl shade spotted bias that runs up the front and back partings. It is finished with an intricate spiders web at the front and back in black ribbon.
I have teamed this with Black Bax Ankle Patent leather boots.
Skin by Skinsane in Lonely Halloween Skin
Jewellery – Gems and Kisses black drop earings and swallowtail Branch Necklace Black. and Loulou and Co braclets
